Help the ASPCA

The ASPCA has rescue teams out in the disaster areas and has set up stations for help for displaced animals (and reunions with the parents), but is also working with other organizations in the disaster areas and in Texas (where pets are being brought) to help care for the animals here, who were often left behind.

Click on the banner to the left and/or read more about rescue stories, updates, and efforts on their website. http://www.aspca.org

There are photo albums, too, of their work in the coliseum, reunions, and resources.

it's so sad. a lot of people who tried to bring their animals with them to the convention centers weren't allowed to (and the animals may have been too big to smuggle in). :)

That's why it's so great that the aspca groups (and others) are there to take care of the animals. For those that have to give their furry kids away, they make records and take them to the animal center nearby, where they are cared for until the people can get them again. That's also where the lost animals are taken.

The Humane society is also there doing lots of rescue work. They're both understaffed and could use more people in the field, but from what I'm reading, they've been able to save a lot of animals there - including the horses and mules in the city for the tourists and others in the area.

It's just horrifying to think of the ones left in houses.

And no, we wouldn't have left her - we would have put the bonnet on KC and called her out little sister with the hair disorder. But we also would have been one of the fortunate ones with the means to leave before the storm.
